OVERVIEW
You will be responsible for delivering our Level 2 equivalent horticulture courses and one-time sessions to at-risk individuals. Small groups learn all the basics to start their own sustainable home garden from soil prep to harvest, rain-catchment with pest and disease management. Courses range from 4-8 weeks with the goal of taking each group through one growth cycle in their dedicated plots. Locations vary – Mangere, Papatoetoe, Manurewa
BASIC RESPONSIBILITIES
- Teaching diverse groups entry-level horticulture in a hands-on, outdoor environment and some indoor tuition
- Adaption of course materials for different learning styles and levels
- Assess students’ comprehension with appropriate tools, some open book exams apply
- Reporting course outcomes to Program Coordinators
- Facilitating course feedback and crop yields produced
STRUCTURE
You will work in conjunction with the program leader and garden-site managers to organise requirements for classes. Some groups will have supervisors. You will deliver materials as the sole teacher to training completion.
REQUIREMENTS
- Must have a certificate in Horticulture or 5+ years experience
- Teaching certificate not required, but would be beneficial
- Must provide police vetting check to work with vulnerable populations
- Subject to drug screening
HOURS & REMUNERATION
- $21/hour
- 5 hours p/day p/course, up to 3 days per week (one course per day)
